This par four starts and finishes on the eastern side of the stream but the entire fairway is on the western side of the stream. Although the fairway is generous, it is best to hug the right hand side in order to gain the best angle into the green. The stream is in play for both tee and approach shots. Approach shots are extremely difficult as the green is long and narrow and being slightly raised it deflects off-line shots away from the putting surface. This also makes recovery shots very challenging. Although the hole is not especially long from the mid-tees, golfers often lay up to avoid making more than five. This is deservedly stroke hole 1.
